International Men's Mental Health Month

International Men's Mental Health Month

Men's mental health has rightfully been an increasingly talked about topic in recent years. So much so, that it gave rise to the Movember movement and November is International Men's Mental Health Month.

It is no surprise that many people are suffering from mental health issues including anxiety and depression. Sometimes men don't feel comfortable sharing their feelings with others due to the historic narrative that men don't need that kind of support. Well, we believe everybody deserves the support and tools they need to live a well-rounded life, so we have put together a list of coping mechanisms that men or anybody can use to cope during those difficult times.

Relaxation
Breathing exercises and meditation are great ways to regroup with yourself as well as clear your mind. The great thing about these techniques is that you can practice them anywhere and any time you are feeling overwhelmed like in the car, at home or even at the office.

Exercise
We all know that exercise is great for physical health but in fact, exercise helps release feel-good hormones in the brain that is responsible for our mood. Physical activity is extremely important to add to your daily life to regulate your feelings. Next time you are feeling down, take a walk or visit the gym to get those happy feelings back on track.

Socialising With Friends & Family
Depression and anxiety have a way of isolating us from the ones closest to us and it can be difficult to get into a social mood when your mental health takes a dip. That being said, spending time with those who love you and have your best interest at heart is sometimes all you need to put a pep back in your step.

Talking About It
Men often shy away from talking about how they feel but talking about it is a good way of getting it off your chest and into the world. Speaking about it to someone you trust like a partner, friend or therapist can help you feel less lonely and being heard is so much more freeing than you would expect.

Men's mental health needs to be spoken about more often and there are many organizations raising awareness for men's mental health. If you would like to play your part in raising awareness, you can donate to Movember here:
